Yuma Desert

This what most of of the desert in this area looks like.

It is going to be a hit and miss time for me because we are closing up our winter house and moving everything to the motorhome and traveling to the Pacific Northwest for the summer. We are planning to leave May 6 and take a few days with many photo and geocaching stops.

Near Sedona, AZ

This was taken on our return trip to the Grand Canyon.  The creek goes down the canyon and the red rock area near Sedona.

Boston Terrier

This is our new pup that is 9 months old and she has been in a full leg cast for 8 weeks due to a broken leg.  She is just starting to live up to her name.  We also have another one that is12 years old.

Anna's Hummingbird

We took a little drive today into Yuma and took a walk in one of the citys’ park.  To our surprise we found that the city made a special part of the park for hummingbirds.  They planted many blooming plants that the birds like.  I was lucky enough to capture this one.

Imperial Sand Dunes

Last week we drove to the Sand Dunes and found this interesting bit of history.

Picture yourself back in 1918 trying to cross the burning desert of Imperial County. You reach the treacherous Imperial Sand Dunes and face the challenge of a seamless ocean of sand. With relief and anxiety you begin to ascend the first dune on the Plank Road. The heat, swirling sand, and jarring ride across the rough planks makes you nauseous, but you are grateful since this new route offers safety and cuts many hours off the adventurous trip across the desert.

Amid great fanfare, the first planks were laid on February 14, 1915. For the next two months, a combination of volunteers and paid workers hauled lumber and laid down two parallel plank tracks, each 25″ wide, spiked to wooden cross pieces underneath. The wheel path floated across 6 1/2 miles of shifting sand east of Gray’s Well. Work ended on April 4, 1915. A week later, the ‘glad Hand Excursion,” consisting of 25 cars loaded with over 100 riders, gaily traveled the Plank Road and declared it a success

Oak Creek Canyon Near Sedona, Arizona

 Another capture on our return trip from the Grand Canyon.  If you are ever near Sedona, make sure you take a drive though Oak  Creek Canyon.

Often called “Red Rock Country”Sedona is a four seasons playground for everyone – whether you’re into history and archaeology; arts and culture; power shopping; outdoor sports; or the spiritual and metaphysical, imagine doing all this in a backdrop of some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.

Indeed, this picturesque city is surrounded by red-rock monoliths named Coffeepot, Cathedral and Thunder Mountain. At the north end of the city is the stunning  Oak Creek Canyon  a breathtaking chasm that even today, is wildly wonderful.

Sedona, Arizona

On our return trip from the Grand Canyon we went to Sedona, Arizona and found these wonderful red rock. If you every in the North Central part of Arizona make sure you visit this area

South Rim Grand Canyon

This is one of the most popular view point on the South Rim.  It is 7438 feet above sea level and is one of the best  image that I took on my very short stay.

Grand Canyon

Since our daughter and son-in law was visiting for a few days, I have been away form the computer. Sunday we drove them to the Grand Canyon to continue their vacation and we returned home on Monday. We had only a few hours in the Canyon to take a few shots with poor light and haze. Today we did get some fair shots of the red rock around Sedona . I plan to catch up on some of by back computer work this week.

There were many Tea Parties around The United States today.
This is part of the crowd that attended the Tea Party along the Colorado River in Yuma Arizona.  There were several speakers who expressed concerns about the government getting too big and spending too much money that they do not have
